evidence!

what you are seeing here is forensic data that can without a doubt prove that nevaeh has begun to put her mini-paws on all my stuff. if you look at the pic of the bench full sized you can distinctly see a small handprint in my carefully arranged dust on the shelf in the right hand corner. i've provided a close up of this crime against my poor housekeeping.

the other pic of nevaeh needs no explaining. she's obviously done something. woah, i'm having a premonition of that face "i swear to god i didn't mean to steal the car, and that bottle you found is one my dumb friend left..." frightening.

don't look at me

handiwork of farideh. i swear to god i can't leave the room without coming back and nevaeh being either a)naked to the diaper b)dressed in some absurb manner. usually a. here, nevaeh and farideh were left alone with the "winter stuff" basket, hence the booties, scarf, and toque. believe it or not, these pictures couldn't capture the real ridiculousness of how nevaeh looked!

otherwise, nevaeh has pretty much figured out the crawling thing. but she lacks the knowledge and confidence that she actually can crawl. so when she's not trying she'll zip all over the place but as soon as she is trying to get somewhere she is dumbfounded and consequently frustrated. ahhhh, the life of a >1 year old....

this is what it has come to

don't judge me! so i have to store my daughter in the bathroom sink to actually get some cleaning done....believe me, it's worth it. i never realized how difficult it was to do ANYTHING with an infant/toddler. but really the benefits are obvious, cause talk about the cutest baby ever. i suppose i should also mention that this is also the international debut of her ponytail. i deliberated for awhile about which pic to post and then couldn't choose from four very similar pictures. so alas, you can have them all!

wow, these are priceless. but, there's no price on good dental hygiene habits, right?

parenting should be a practice meditation for buddhist monks.

i'm looking back at a time when sleep wasn't an issue. back when i didn't know the meaning of frustration. back when i didn't think about how, when, and where my baby fell asleep. back when i could take a picture of her sleeping without the paralyzing fear that, oh god, she might wake up. if you haven't figured it out, i am currently in the process of cleaning up nevaeh's sleep hygiene. that's what all the books call it when your kid wakes up too much or doesn't fall asleep right, or doesn't fall asleep period. well, i just spent the last half hour or so literally fighting with nevaeh to go back to sleep. i say literally because it involved physical force on her part. you see when she is crying she will violently push herself up on all fours against my body. so she won't rock in the rocking chair and she won't walk around and she won't stand swaying and she won't nurse and she won'twon'twon'twon'twon't do whatever it takes to fall asleep again. which seems odd to me because she is remarkably tired. i say parenting should be training for buddhist monks because it takes every ounce i have in me to not scream as loud and long as i can. also, to get nevaeh back to sleep i have to hold her, standing, motionless for what feels like eternity, staring at the dimly lit wall. i know what you ferber-ized rents are saying, and yes we went the "let her cry it out" route. what sucks about it is that, much like atkins, you have to maintain it for it to actually work. nevaeh got sick a few weeks ago so we couldn't allow ourselves to let her cry it out every single time and lookit that, those 20lbs are right back where i left them. so i have to hold her, standing, motionless for what feels like eternity until i can place her into her crib. and you know it's bad because when she allows me to let go and rolls onto her side i mutter "thank you Jesus" and i mean it and i'm not even christian. but there it is, and i do mean it.

don't be fooled by the toys that i got....

ghetto fabulous or what? i especially like the overhead of nevaeh that could seriously be a still from a rap video. i don't know about anyone else but i can't seem to get mary j. blige's song, "real love" out of my head when i see these pictures. on a different note, nevaeh celebrated her first Naw Ruz, which is the Baha'i new year, on monday. she made her mark early in the night by trying to out-sing one of the opening performances. also, she is in the process of getting "chomper 3", her first top tooth. this is probably a good thing, because her bottom chompers are getting quite large and egotistical about owning the whole mouth. viva la chomper 3!

When Keeping It Real Goes Right

just wanted to give a shout out to everyone that has been commenting. it's sorta hard to tell if i am just a crazy person talking to myself out here so it's nice to hear some voices.
i think this is what happens when Keeping it Real Goes Right. In case you didn't notice nevaeh is letting us all know that she is #1. this picture reminds me of a time at christmas, when my brother marek and i were sitting chatting on the couch when his dog Buddy walked up. i said, "Hey cuteness." i then turned to marek and said, "well, i should say cuteness #2, since we all know nevaeh is cuteness #1." we then both turned to look at nevaeh, and she was in a similar position reclining on my mom with her "#1" held high. she had a look on her face that was saying "hells ya, cause that's the way i keeps it real." can't front on that.

best groceries ever

what's really funny is how small i forget nevaeh is. this bag is massive and she can barely fill it up....
what's also funny is that this is how i spend my days. wake up, eat breakfast, think of amusing photo possibilities involving the placement of nevaeh in hilarious clothes or places, nap, eat lunch, watch winnie the pooh and march around the house singing "Heave ho, heave ho, push and pull and out the Pooh will go!" (Don't you love Disney), nap, wait for mike to come home. what a life.
p.s. this second photo could totally be a headshot from nevaeh's agent...be a bigger ham nevaeh!

holy armpit hair batman!

women's day celebration today and nevaeh made many friends with many braless copatriots. note: when taking small child to women's festivals be prepared to have random people temporarily steal your child. deep breaths, don't look psycotic, sip your punch, and pray that she cries for you....
