keeping it regular
nevaeh is so happy that it is nice weather again. every morning she wakes up and asks to go outside. "go side?" sometimes she won't wait for us to open the door, which makes me thank the lord for the previous tenant who installed inside locks at the top of both her the front and back door. one time mike heard the door slam and saw nevaeh running in the back yard, only she was wearing a big furry pink coat and yellow rubber boats. but that was all- she seemed to think they were the only pieces of clothing neccessary for her adventure.
language is developing slow and steady, she speaks fluently in her own tongue which some of us have gotten used to. every other month she has been having ear infections, which the doc says will deter speech development. looks like she will have to get the tubes soon. her favourite expressions these days usually involve movies (Dora, Ferngully (Chrysta!), and Dr. Suess) and anything she can attach "my" or "mine" to.
we are gearing up for our yearly trip to uncle marek's pad for the big day. marek is getting married (finally!) and we are thrilled to have a chance to be a part of it. nevaeh is really making victoria a part of her lifestyle- soon enough she will be demanding the ocean air every spring.
potty training is in full effect. nevaeh loves wearing panties, a fact i quickly picked up when she began opting for bathing suit bottoms (albeit last years WAY TOO TIGHT bottoms) instead of clothes. i was just happy she was willing to put any clothes on, since her dress code of choice is usually the of the nudist persuasion. but hand in hand with potty training come "accidents". when doing laundry the other day, i ran upstairs after hearing nevaeh yell "mommy! where are you??? I POTTY!" i found her jumping up and down on our bed holding her potty and chanting "poop poop poop poop". you can guess what was inside. this is because she loves dumping out her own potty after she uses it. so we also know to go running when we hear the toilet lid tumble closed (it usually means she is one step ahead of us).
that's all for now, but i will try to get the latest victoria pics up as soon as we get back. in the meantime, please leave a comment with your favourite nevaeh story. it is too hard to remember them all!

i have tried so hard to remember vaeh stories. we must make a conscious effort to record her moments as they happen. anyways, here is a cute one from our holiday. neveah woke us up one morning. she wanted to watch seuss. so she said "auntie, seuss, seuss!!" and i replied "okay, first get the dvd for auntie". Neaveh then produced the DVD from where she had it hidden and said "TA-Duh-AAAAAAAA" but it was sorta sassy like she was really saying, duh auntie, it is right here fool.

I'm not the best contributor because I've only been with Nevaeh a handful of times in the last few months, but I'm absolutely smitten so the poor girl is stuck with me forever.
Every minute with Nevaeh is story-worthy, but if I had to pick a favourite:
Nevaeh had recently adopted the nasty city-girl habit of spitting when displeased. When Nahanni and Micheal had me over for delicious food and a good yak, we all ended up in the living room with Nevaeh centre stage. She was singing some song about rain (Nahanni backed her with the lyrics, Nevaeh was just sort of scatting). She danced in that funny way where she holds one leg stiff and bounces on the other (perhaps she'd been watching Heather Mills on Dancing with the Stars, but that's merely tasteless conjecture on my part). Anyway, it was getting late, and it was suggested that it might be bed time. "No!" Nevaeh cried, defiantly. Nahanni and Micheal insisted. Nevaeh protested. Finally, in full Momness, Nahanni stood up, ready to begin the trek to Nevaeh's boudoir and said, authoritatively, "It's night night time now." Neveah didn't move a muscle but horked a perfect loogie that landed right at our feet.
I don't know what was funnier. The spitting, or watching Mike and Nahanni try to discipline their child without peeing themselves. "We... don't... spit!" Mike could barely choke it out, he was laughing so hard. Nahanni was even less effective, burying her head in her arm and trying to laugh inaudibly. I was the worst, though. I laughed with abandon, free from the responsibility of having to implement rules and order, or dealing with it later when it was no longer cute. Nevaeh found her ideal audience in me and smiled one of those huge, gaping smiles we lose when we get older and meaner. She was I think certain at that moment she had won the room. Like any truly great performer, she provided no encore, and left us wanting more as she slowly, deliberately, made her way to bed.
